Methodology
This dataset was compiled from official electoral maps published by the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC). The foundational data was extracted from official maps covering all 19 approved delimitation exercises in Malaysia's history—from the pre-independence 1954 Malayan boundaries up to the 2019 Sabah delimitation. Because the EC does not publicly distribute electoral boundaries in machine-readable formats, the boundaries had to be digitised from the official maps. This involved rasterising the source maps, geo-referencing them against contemporary basemaps, and then tracing the boundaries by hand. Users should note that these boundaries were reconstructed specifically to support spatial analysis, historical mapping, and longitudinal research (such as measuring gerrymandering and malapportionment). They are optimized for data analysis and visualization rather than legal or cadastral precision, and are not intended for operational uses like determining the exact constituency assignment of a specific individual.
