Data & Methodology

PolitikMY is built on open data from several sources, which we mirror to our own storage and process into the views on this site. Credit for the underlying datasets belongs to their original publishers.

Sources

  • ElectionData.MY (CC0 / public domain) — electoral results, seat statistics, polling-station tallies, anonymised voter rolls and constituency maps, originally compiled from official Election Commission (SPR) records. This is the primary source for the election data on this site.
  • DOSM / data.gov.my — total-population estimates per constituency from the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
  • Parlimen Malaysia — official Dewan Rakyat MP records: service-centre address, email, phone, social media, chamber seat and ministerial office (public government information).
  • Wikidata (CC0) — biographical detail for MPs: dates, education, occupation and external links.
  • Election Commission (SPR) — registered-voter statistics (age band per state) pulled directly from the official SPR results dashboard.

Coverage

16 federal general elections (1955–2022), candidate-level results, seat-level turnout and majorities, voter demographics by ethnicity, sex and age band, 222 current MPs with official contact records, and per-state demographic breakdowns. Browse the raw datasets in the Database.

Notes & caveats

Result history for a seat is matched by constituency name across delimitation exercises; because boundaries are periodically redrawn, historical matches are indicative rather than exact.

Population figures (DOSM) measure total residents and differ from registered-voter counts (the electorate) — both are shown where relevant.

MP attendance and voting records are not published as structured open data by Parlimen Malaysia, so they are not included here.
